Description
The canal is filled with organic growth and plants. In front of Casa Del Barco it looks like a cesspool. It smells like one as well. There is a huge amount of debris caught in the catch fence at the terminus of the canal.
It is disgusting looking. And we want people to come and visit this area why?

7/8/2014 - Richmond Floodwall Mgmt noted Richmond City had already begun looking into this matter and is currently working to hire a contractor to clean the excessive algae growth that has occurred.
Floodwall Mgmt noted too that due to the low flow and river levels, the canal gets stagnant during this time and cannot be flushed. The growth of aquatic algae is due in part to the fertilization of the surrounding turf and ornamentals which adds nitrogen to the canal waters. Also, aquatic weeds are also a natural element of the river and can grow rapidly in the canal due to the high level of nutrients and clear, slow moving water. Once a contractor is selected, Richmond City we will work with Venture Richmond to treat the canal.
As to the leaves and other debris, this will be removed once the flow is increased.
